NYFW: Altuzarra Fall 2012
“He was a sailor, his mom was a gypsy, and his dad was Venetian.”
Thats how Altuzarra describes Corto Maltese, the french cartoon character that inspired a lot of these looks. It gave him a really good reason to go for military inspired tailoring, which made up the collection. The beautiful velvet blazers, fur pea coats, and shearling toggle coats were the centerpiece of the show.
That was only half of it though. The second half of his show featured a very different look, derived from his travels in Morocco and India. The dresses over-embroidered with medallions, and a jersey dress made from draped Moroccan print.
The last element of his show, which most people can relate to, was the chunky knits decorated with colorful pompoms and tapestry patterns.
“I just wanted to do things that women want to wear” Altuzarra said about this collection.
